Problem Definition:

Citrix Users report Cannot Start Desktop 

Citrix desktop service starts but does not attempt registration

Event ID: 1016 in application event logs coming from Citrix Desktop Service: Citrix Workstation Agent Service was unable to apply computer policies

Citrix Group Policy Engine Service in Services.msc is not started, attempts to start it indicate a 1053 error.

Note: VMware tools may also fail to install as a result of this issue.

Resolution:

Repair the following C++ redistributable installations.  The msi files are available in the support directory of the DesktopConfig media.

Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Runtime 32 bit

Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Runtime 64 bit

Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Runtime 32 bit

Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Runtime 62 bit

Restart the Virtual Machine.
